  1. Dear Divya,

Hearty congratulation for securing a good rank and best of luck for your future endeavour.
Further, I would like to thank you for sharing your strategy and booklist.

I have following questions in my mind. It would be really helpful, if you could answer them.

    Books
    1. You have mentioned a number of books for each topic (especially for Macroeconomics)
How did you go about reading these books? Have you read all books thoroughly? Or you have selected one book as your basic book, which you have read thoroughly (if yes, which one) and used other books as reference?

    2. What is your opinion about following books (I have read these books in my MBA course)
    (i) Macroeconomics - by Dornbusch, Fischer & Startz
(ii) Microeconomics by Pindyck & Rubinfeld
(iii) The World Economy by Yarbrough & Yarbrough

    Syllabus
    3. Have you kept your reading restricted to the topics mentioned in syllabus only, or have you read through the whole book to develop a good understanding?

    Coaching
    4. Have you joined any coaching for Economics & GS , if yes, which one and how useful it was?

    Writing Skill
    5. Although I am sure that I will develop the good hold over the syllabus. But I have a doubt over my writing skills (not able to write an answer in a flow, bad handwriting and spelling/grammatical mistakes). In your opinion, should a coaching be joined to work on the writing skill?
Could you please advise me how to improve it, or share any blog or website which could be used where I could upload my answers and able to see the answers of others to get guidance over answer writing?

    1. Regarding your queries:

1&3. For Macro, i used Froyen as the base book. Then made notes from Dornbusch, Shapiro, Gardner Ackley on topics which have been asked in mains earlier or could be asked in future.. I stuck to the syllabus mostly but taking a wider view considering all old questions asked in the exam. For eg:

In CSE 2006, it was asked, “Wicksell has added the missing chapter to the classical monetary theory by emphasizing the importance of rate of interest in the monetary theory”. Discuss.

Now this question is an in-depth question on the classical theory. So, what was the contribution of Wicksell to it has been asked. That implied the contribution of other economists can also be asked. That's how i went about it in general.

Overall, stuck to the syllabus as its already pretty huge.

      2. I would not suggest the books which you have read in MBA as i doubt if you would be able to find answers to all the old CSE questions in those.

      4. I did not join any coaching for Eco or GS..I bought notes of coaching institutes though for parity sake.

      5. I believe knowing the answer is more important these days rather than writing style as the papers have small questions and are lengthy. So focus on content first and if time permits on writing style.
