    1. Are you asking for GS or Pol Sci optional? For pol science, optional you can go through the book list given by Ms. Aditi Singh ( AIR-12, CSE 2008)...

  3. Dear mam , first of all heartiest congratulation for your esteemed success and all the best for your future endeavours. I am right now going through DD Basu. Can you please tell me exactly how you went on to read this book ? Did you make notes for the whole book , remembered the article numbers for important rights or just went through it in a casual but attentive way , cramming something or not at all.

    1. Thanks Nikhit...I will try to share how to read DD Basu soon...I did not make notes but underlined imp things...But if you have time notes would be better for revision...Some article numbers like on Fundamental rights, F. Duties, DPSPs etc need to be memorised...Others can be skipped unless they are in news...

  4. Hi,

This is my first attempt. I am pretty sure about clearing prelims. Could you help me decide whether to join test series for mains or not? As of now my preparation is inadequate.

    1. @Radhika

You need not join any test series for mains..Just concentrate on increasing your knowledge base and covering the syllabus completely...Just check how your writing speed is by writing a couple of mock tests available from Rajinder Nagar or some old GS paper...If your writing speed is ok, you needn't worry much about test series...Good luck..

    1. By writing more answers and getting them checked from a competent person is the only way to improve..But this should be secondary to gaining a stronghold on the subjects..Good luck..

  7. Thank you, mam for this initiative.
I am 21 year old west bengal general category student starting my preparation for ICS exam 2014/2015.(now living in New Delhi for preparation)
    I have three queries...
    pls, make me free,
    a) Is it possible to get success in ICS exam 2014-2015 in first go starting preparation from right now?
    b) My academic scores: Xth 78 per cent, XII science, 83 percent and BA(General), 45 per cent.
Will it be any disadvantage in interview board with these low marks?
    c) How top rank I have to secure to get Indian Foreign Service?
My only aim is to get selected for Indian Foreign Service.
thats why I'm not interested in M.A. right now.
only wish to concentrate in ICS exam.
    thank you, mam.

    1. a) Many people get success in the 1st attempt, so you can too

      b) Marks would not be a disadvantage in the interview board according to my view

      c) In general category, you have to get rank till 120 to be almost sure of getting IFS according to current trends

      Good luck..

should I go for B.A. again or M.A. in open universities for more marks??
      thank you, mam.

    1. I am an MBA from IIMB so a bit acquainted with Accounts basics..Chose commerce because syllabus has some overlap with management and had little time to prepare any other subject...Cleared concepts from books like J R Monga for accountancy...Got 250 in Commerce..

  13. Hi Divya, Congrats.

I've started my 1 year prep for CSP 14, and plan to choose Management as my optional.

It would be really helpful if you could share what books to start with for the Management Optional... topics of importance ... etc

A suggestion it would be great if you could have a Contact Me Page, where we could send you our question.
( You can respond when you find time :) )

    Thanks in advance.
