  1. Hello Divya,
thanks a lot for the blog first. it's very helpful. I have a few queries on paper II, hope you answer.

    1. In the current section the 2nd line : esp papers by "probably something missing"
    2. Do you have any idea if the oxford companion would have a new edition since data in this 1 is max updated till 2009.
    3. In the questions on British Indian economy like the drain of wealth controversy : Did you give a nationalist view in your answer or a more balanced one.
    4. Which readings of the DU do you recommend for the modern economy portion?
    5. Did you give a lot of data in your answers or your figures were approximate mostly? another thing is how to much up data.

    thanks again

    1. 1. papers by Poonam Gupta, Arvind Virmani, Petia Topalova etc

      2. I have no idea but you can rely on Oxford companion for fundaas rather than data..For eg. the land reform chapter, Disinvestment etc...

      3. I have all views whatever i knew...a bit nationalistic towards the end, but quoting the british views as well and all national income numbers by sivasubramanian, atkinson, naoraji et al...Overall, not a biased view but more a considered view...

      4. I do not remember which DU readings, but looked at them...For eg. Pre-ind is well covered, Some papers have 1 page summaries written by a DU prof in their readings though most papers are there in Uma Kapila...Some glanced through all this to gain something extra...

      5. I did not use a lot of data but did made some 5-6 pages of data sheets and tried to memorise them to be used accodingly..I relied on conceptual questions than a data-oriented ones...

Hope i have been able to answer your queries...Keep asking..

    2. thanks a lot divya. a few more follow-up questions

      1. there are two books of thirlwall in the market. which one did you follow?

      2. you must have practiced answer writing for both eco papers. please suggest do's and don'ts for answer writing.

      3. some topics are mentioned in the syllabus but questions are rarely asked from them (eg. distribution theories of ricardo, kaldor) while some others one are not explicitly mentioned but asked in exam (eg. Indian demography and its relation to economic growth). While reading a topic/book how do you decide what to skip and what not? Till now I have been reading topics from which questions have been asked in the previous 10 year question papers but I fear I might end up facing questions in the exam I have no idea about.

    3. Choosing what to study and what to leave is the most difficult thing about this exam. It is difficult for me to give a guideline on it. I would just say study as much extensively as possible while making brief notes and focussing more on topics mentioned in syllabus.

I used "Growth and Development" by Thirlwall... http://us.macmillan.com/growthanddevelopmenteighthedition/AThirlwall

I did not practice any answer writing...But my advice is to be precise and clear in your answers. Your first para should tell what you want to convey through the answer.
